The single was published in 2015, when she turned 19. The track received praise by music critics as well as listeners. The single peaked at 19th in both the Canadian Hot 100 as well as Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone called the single one of its Best Songs in 2015. The same year, she debuted her album Know It All with the third song Scars to Your Beautiful being one of five original tracks which peaked on the Billboard charts. This includes those of the Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100. Based on an interview she did in conjunction with Rap Up, this particular song had a lot of significance for a lot of the listeners who related to her story about learning to accept and love yourself. Cara's tracks often contain positive message about mental wellness and the importance of being self-love. All of Cara's music stems directly from her struggle with mental illness, insomnia and other issues. When she spoke to Reuters she described her album as "half tumultuous" as well as "half perfect". She describes her growth through therapy and she encourages others to seek help when they need it. Alessia Cara grew up in Toronto in Canada. She was born July 11th, 1996 to parents of Italian descent. In 2010, her parents gave her a brand-new guitar which she utilized to develop her passion for the music. She started covering her favorite songs when she was thirteen to show everyone that she had the skills and the confidence required to become an artist. One of the songs Sweater Weather ended up getting her attention by a record label named EP Entertainment which allowed her to write and create tracks.
