The single was published at the time she was turning 19. It became a huge hit immediately, and both critics and the fans were awed by it. It was ranked in the top 19 on both Billboard Hot 100 in Canada and on the Canadian Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone called the song one of their Top Songs in 2015. It was the same time when she debuted Know It All. Scars to Your Beautiful is one of her five original tracks that was featured in the Billboard Charts, including Billboard Hot 100 in Canada and Billboard 200 for Canadian Albums Charts. In her interview with Rap-Up fans discussed Cara's journey to self-love and her doubts. Cara incorporates messages about love and kindness throughout her songs. The inspiration for her music is drawn from her own personal experiences as she struggled with mental health issues as well as insomnia. Reuters said that she described the album "half turbulent, and half finished". Therapy made her stronger and she encourages others to do the same. Alessia Cara has been a Canadian artist since 1996. Her parents are of Italian origin. Her parents bought her a new guitar which she utilized to develop her passion for music. She began covering her favourite songs at age 13, to prove to that world that she had the skills and the confidence required to become an artist. One of her covers, Sweater Weather, was the one that got her attention. EP Entertainment gave her an opportunity to develop and record her own tracks.
